Project Overview
The Challenge
Classlist is a parent community platform for school communities. The product brings together class lists, events, messaging, social features and a marketplace in one mobile experience.
I worked across the end-to-end UX and UI, from information architecture and navigation to events, messaging and community features. The challenge was making a feature-rich product feel simple, familiar and easy to navigate.
Structuring Complexity
THE PROBLEM
Parents needed access to classes, events, messages, groups and other community features from the same app. As the product grew, keeping everything easy to find became increasingly important.
THE DECISION
I organised the main experience around a clear navigation structure and grouped related features together. Frequently used actions stayed easy to reach, while secondary features remained available without competing for attention.
THE OUTCOME
A clearer structure gave the different parts of the product a consistent place and made the growing feature set easier to navigate.

Building Social Trust
THE PROBLEM
A school community includes people who may recognise each other but do not necessarily know each other personally. Profiles needed to provide useful context without feeling like a public social network.
THE DECISION
I designed profiles around information relevant to the community, including school and class connections, family context and shared groups. The hierarchy keeps this context visible before more general profile information.
THE OUTCOME
Profiles give parents enough context to understand who they are interacting with and how they are connected within the community.

End-to-End Event Experience
THE PROBLEM
School events involve more than discovering what is happening. Parents also need to understand the details, respond and return to the event information later.
THE DECISION
I designed the event journey as a connected flow from discovery to event details and RSVP. Important information and actions remain visible without making the screen feel overloaded.
THE OUTCOME
Events have a consistent journey from discovery through participation, rather than behaving like isolated pieces of content.

Findability at Scale
THE PROBLEM
As more events, groups and community activity appear in the app, a single chronological feed becomes harder to navigate.
THE DECISION
I introduced clearer browsing and filtering patterns so parents could narrow content by what was relevant to them instead of searching through one long list.
THE OUTCOME
The structure supports a larger amount of community content while keeping everyday browsing manageable.

Marketplace Within Community
THE PROBLEM
Parents already buy, sell and exchange school-related items within their communities. Bringing this into the product needed to feel useful without turning Classlist into a separate marketplace app.
THE DECISION
I designed the marketplace as part of the existing community experience, using familiar listing and browsing patterns while keeping the connection to the school community visible.
THE OUTCOME
Marketplace activity fits naturally alongside the other community features instead of feeling like a separate product.

Messaging Without the Group Chat
THE PROBLEM
Parents needed simple ways to communicate without every interaction becoming another large group conversation.
THE DECISION
I designed messaging around direct and contextual conversations, keeping the interface familiar while connecting conversations back to people and community activity where useful.
THE OUTCOME
Messaging supports everyday communication without adding unnecessary complexity to the wider product.

Key Outcomes
Classes, events and community features sit within one clearer mobile structure.
END-TO-END MOBILE UX
Parents can understand who they are interacting with and how they are connected.
COMMUNITY CONTEXT
Events, listings and messaging follow familiar patterns across the app.
